WHAT WE DO
(we do it for the love...)
Scoriton Country Show & Sports is a traditional country get-together organised by community volunteers, with an army of other helpers from local parishes.
This year is the 76th year the Scoriton Show.
On the day, there is something for everyone, (young and not so young)!
Surrounded by beautiful Dartmoor countryside, a large marquee is the centre-piece of the Show field. You will find fantastic displays of locally grown produce, stunning specimen flowers and flower arrangements, as well as home baking and jam making. In addition, there are adult and children’s crafts. All these things are judged by local experts with prizes and cups given to the best entries. Competition is fierce!
Also in the marquee, you can buy locally prepared food and drink, and there are places to sit and chat and catch up with friends old and new.
Outside, on the Show field there are games to play and many stalls of interest run by local businesses and community groups. A band plays and people dance if they are feeling brave. For the truly adventurous and competitive there is an afternoon of sports for all ages, culminating in the famous egg tossing, as well as a cross-country run through the spectacular local landscape.
For those who just can’t stop at an afternoon of fun, in the evening there is bale tossing (a Devon special – and not for the faint-hearted), followed by a wonderful ceilidh where you can dance into the night.
Any money we make goes towards future community events or is donated to local charities. In previous years we have given to:
Dartmoor Search and Rescue
Devon Air Ambulance
The Valiant Soldier, Buckfastleigh
Buckfastleigh swimming pool
Buckfastleigh food bank
Moor Imagination CIC
Buckfastleigh Memory Cafe CIC
